Sultanahmet Square

One of the most important squares in Istanbul, Sultanahmet, is included amongst the monographic topics in the series "Anatolia Through the Ages". From Byzantium to the present day, its history, social life, monuments and the echoing past are presented.
Anatolia, a host of many civilizations for thousands of years, has been the craddle of both wars and civilization. Homer wrote his Illiad and Heredotus wrote his History on these lands. Coins to be used as currency were invented here and iron was first shaped again on these lands.
