| wonderfull view of Geneva(Leman) Lake and Chiilon Castle .I visited this beautiful castle last year,thanks for sharing
Chillon Castle-Chateau de Chillon- Beautiful Montreux is the most visited resort in Lake Geneva. The landmark Chillon Castle, originally built in the 9th. century, is a must see for visitors. Its rich history and distinctive appearance has served as inspiration to such literary greats as Lord Byron, Victor Hugo and others. There was a castle here as early as the ninth century, built to protect one of the main roads to the Great St Bernard pass to Italy, but the present castle was for the most part built by the counts of Savoy in the late twelfth and thirteenth centuries. During the sixteenth century, the castle was used as a state prison and was the setting of the English poet Byron`s "The Prisoner of Chillon" |
