Funicular of the Hohensalzburg Fortress
Hohensalzburg Fortress (Salzburg Fortress) was built in the 11th century by Archbishop Gebhard and is the largest unconquered fortress in Europe. Hohensalzburg Fortress offers a stunning view of the city of Salzburg and getting there by a funicular is real fun. The funicular railway was built in 1892 to provide an easy access up the hill. The station is on the Festungsgasse, very close to the Salzburg cathedral.
